Meaning:
This doha (couplet) is sung in various Rajasthani folk songs to express virah — the deep longing, separation, and pain of being away from one’s beloved.
In the stillness of the night, the sorrowful call of a crane echoed from across the river. As I slept, I dreamt of my beloved. The dream was so deep and moving that it touched the very depths of my heart and soul, leaving my entire being overwhelmed with emotion.
हिंदी अर्थ:
यह दोहा विभिन्न राजस्थानी लोकगीतों में विरह—प्रिय से दूरी, बिछोह और उससे उपजी गहरी पीड़ा — के भाव को व्यक्त करने के लिए गाया जाता है।
रात में सारस की करुण पुकार गूँज रही थी और दरिया के उस पार चारों ओर सन्नाटा था। मैं सोई तो मुझे अपने प्रिय का सपना आया। वह सपना इतना गहरा और भावुक था कि उसका प्रभाव अंतरात्मा और हृदय की गहराइयों तक उतर गया, और मेरा पूरा तन-मन भाव-विह्वल हो गया।
राती (रात) सारस बोलियो, दरिया पेले दंग।
सूती हुई ने सपनो आवियो, अरगत बह गया अंग॥
Raati(Raat) saaras boliyo, dariya pele dang.
Sooti hui ne sapno aaviyo, aragat bah gaya ang.
